US Tariff Rates by Country (August 2026): The Current Four-Tier System
Since July 24, 2026, most goods imported into the United States carry an additional Section 301 tariff on top of the normal (MFN) duty rate. The structure replaced the expired Section 122 global tariff and sorts roughly 60 investigated economies into four groups. This page reflects the official notice, 91 FR 47318 (Jul 28, 2026), not press summaries — several widely-shared third-party tables are already out of date.
The four tiers
| Tier | Countries | What you pay |
|---|---|---|
| 10% flat | Argentina, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Canada, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Trinidad & Tobago, United Kingdom | MFN rate + 10% |
| Top-up to 10% | European Union, Taiwan | Total of MFN + 301 is capped at 10%; if MFN is already ≥ 10%, the add-on is zero |
| Top-up to 12.5% | Japan, South Korea, Switzerland | Total of MFN + 301 is capped at 12.5%; if MFN is already ≥ 12.5%, the add-on is zero |
| 12.5% flat | All other investigated economies, including China and Vietnam | MFN rate + 12.5% |
What stacks on top of these tiers
- China: the legacy China Section 301 lists (25% for Lists 1–3, 7.5% for List 4A) are separate actions and can apply in addition to the 12.5% tier.
- Brazil: a separate 25% Section 301 action on Brazilian goods took effect July 22, 2026.
- Canada: a 50% Section 338 tariff on motor vehicles, dairy, and alcoholic beverages takes effect August 19, 2026.
- Section 232 products (steel, aluminum, copper, and others) are exempt from these tiers — an anti-stacking rule — but carry their own, often higher, duties.
Why this table will be stale soon
This is the fourth distinct tariff regime of 2026: IEEPA reciprocal tariffs were struck down by the Supreme Court on February 20; a temporary Section 122 tariff ran February 24 to July 24; the current tiers took effect the same day Section 122 expired; and new country-specific actions (Canada, Brazil) keep landing. If your margins depend on a rate in the table above, you need to know within a day when it moves.
